What we do
Our investment framework

This part of the site gives you an overview of our investment framework. It sets out detailed information on each of our investment areas, organised by who is eligible to apply for funding.

It also sets out:

What we do - in a nutshell

We receive money from the New Zealand government to invest in science and technology R&D[definition] (research and development) for the benefit of New Zealand.

We set investment strategies to guide the investment we make and run investment processes to select the best research for New Zealand.

Visit the Current funding available section to find out which investment processes we are currently running.

Once we make investment decisions, we contract the research, monitor progress regularly, make adjustments as necessary and carry out in-depth reviews of contracts and research areas.

Our review and evaluation functions give us information on how well our investments are performing. We use this information to update our investment strategies and to guide the Foundation[definition] in selecting our future investments.

Visit the Results and review section to find out about investments the Foundation has made and our review and evaluation functions.

We also run Awards and events to promote the benefits of science and technology research to the public.
