The Foundation![[definition]](/sites/all/themes/frsttheme/images/glossary-icon.png "The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology is a Crown entity governed by a Board appointed by the Minister of Research, Science and Technology.
We were established under the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology Act 1990. Under the Act the Foundation’s principle purposes are: to allocate funds for the production of outputs relating to public good science and technology; to allocate funds pursuant to ministerial schemes; and to provide independent policy advice to the Minister of Research, Science and Technology on matters related to research, science and technology, including advice on national priorities for those matters.

MacDiarmid Young Scientists of the Year Awards
The awards recognise excellence and innovation in New Zealand's top emerging researchers. The awards are given to researchers who can communicate their first-class science to the next generation.
Post graduate workshops - Emerging Researchers - Your Career Pathway
We teamed up with The Royal Society and Immigration New Zealand to provide information to national and international post graduate researchers in the form of career workshops at six venues throughout New Zealand.
TechNZ hosted a series of ten “survive and thrive through innovation” Research and Development (R&D) workshops throughout New Zealand in autumn to help businesses get ahead despite the recession.
New Zealand International Business Awards
The 2009 New Zealand International Business Awards run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise were held in September. TechNZ supported the award for Best Use of Research and Development in International Business.
