Our organisation

We are a Crown entity governed by a Board appointed by the Minister of Research, Science and Technology.

We employ 100 staff, including contractors, in our head office in Wellington and at regional offices in Auckland and Christchurch.

Our structure

We have six operational groups, each led by a Group Manager. The Group Managers and our Chief Executive make up the Senior Management Team.

The organisational groups at FRST

Investments Group

The Investments Group is responsible for:

  • best-practice account management
  • facilitating investment outcome
  • monitoring contract performance
  • improving investment process efficiency
  • managing business investments
  • facilitating commercialisation.

It is split into four work units:

  • investments performance
  • business processes
  • business investments
  • commercialisation.

Investment Strategy Group

The Investment Strategy Group identifies research priorities, develops research strategies and is responsible for our negotiated research contracts.

Communications and Marketing Group

The Communications and Marketing Group is responsible for strategic and operational communication with external and internal stakeholders and promotion.

Science, Governance and Reporting Group

The Science, Governance and Reporting Group is charged with understanding the innovation system, providing overviews and identifying opportunities for RS&T to deliver.

It is also responsible for statutory and performance reporting, including evaluation and review functions.

Corporate Development Group

The Corporate Development Group supports the operation of the Foundation? with human resources, finance, audit and information technology functions.

Policy Group

The Policy Group develops our fund management policies. It also contributes to relevant government policy initiatives and the government budget processes.
